What perfect weather for a sail at Manly. Expecting 35 guests we had a great turnout of volunteers and put out all seven Hansas together with Clea for Ivan. The large group from Ability Options arrived in two stages and Holly headed out with Jeremy, Rosie with Michael, Soraya with John W, Holden with Dennis, Ashley with John M and Ava setting sail with Malcolm.
John P was sailing coordinator for the day with Helen managing the registrations, Wilma the lifejackets, Peter and Brian on the pontoon, Corey on the radio and Warwick driving Charlies Chariot with Carolyn as observer. Jonathan and Jim were helping guests into boats until they found their way into a boat later in the day. A big thankyou to Steve who gloved up and spent the first hour of the morning cleaning the barbeque for the sausage sizzle later in the morning.
Avenue Northside came down with a large group including George, Ella, Tarek, James and Craig as well as Avenue with Dan, David, Stephen, Sophie, Ben and Monte. We started to get busy but with a regular turnover of boats and sailors everyone had the chance to get out for a sail or a ride on Charlies Chariot. The group from Sunnyfield then came down with Vanessa, Rodney and Krissy, with some more from Avenue with Nathan, Claudia and Ben. Rodney helped out on Charlies Chariot but everyone else went out for a sail.
We finished up with Ben going out for a sail and with Steve taking Hanlan out before Warwick got to go out for a quick sail powered by a sausage sandwich ably cooked by chef Malcolm.
At the end of the day we managed to get all volunteers and guests out on the water (if they wanted to) and it remained to decide who had the biggest smile for the day. It was awarded on a countback to Ava and Monte who could not be split for the honours with an honourable mention to Jim and others who on seeing Ava’s smile couldn’t help but to join in.
A great day for one and all!
