A beautiful New Year’s Eve Saturday turned into a very balmy evening. It brought about 20 families to sit on the deck and pontoon at Manly Yacht Club to enjoy a social evening and watch the 9.00 p.m. fireworks. Vanessa’s house arrived early and waited for the chairs and tables to be arranged before sitting down to their meal, while Britta and her friends had set themselves up on low chairs to picnic, chat and wait in this beautiful spot.

By around 6.30, there were several more family groups, tables and chairs had been set up, more families gathered and there was some light hearted fun on the pontoon with children waving sparklers. It was very quiet in the area, with plenty of noise from the Skiff Club next door, where a group of Islanders had been hired as entertainers and were drumming and dancing on the lawn. Noise also from the beachfront added to the excitement, leaving quiet conversations possible down on the deck of MYC.

The excitement mounted until exactly 9.00 p.m., when a flash of light from the fireworks pontoon, pulled up close to the moored boats started a wonderful display. Continuous lights and bangs kept the crowd at MYC awed, until a truly spectacular display ended in a wonderful finale, finishing a few minutes later than the display from Sydney Harbour.

It only took a few minutes until all on the deck helped with putting away the tables and chairs, removed the rubbish and the deck was cleared. Thanks so much for this help with putting away, and for clearing the area quickly.
