This was one of those mornings when it is difficult to predict how the weather is going to shape up. Sunny? Yes, definitely, but also strong winds and a strong swell.

Eli, Denis, Helen, Judy, David’s Goldner and Webb, Ella, Niamh, Alan, Barry, Konrad, Michael and Ivan came down, wishing for the wind to drop so that we could get the racing under way.

While waiting, 5 boats were rigged, three of them taken down to the pontoon and launched. This was when Wiebe and crew arrived to drive Charlie’s Chariot, and Pam and Bruce, Race Officers arrived to take Carlysle. So we had a full crew, plenty of hot water, tea and coffee.

But the decision had to be made. Judy and Barry went out for a trial run, but returned within a few minutes with reports of very strong gusts, well over safe racing conditions, as well as a choppy swell that filled Lionheart and got them wet.

So we calmly put all the boats away, had a cup of tea and a chat, and that was the end of the regatta.
