Arriving at the dock today, we were greeted with perfect sailing conditions. The sky was clear and blue, the temperature reached a pleasant high of 21°C, and the ocean was beautifully flat—ideal for a relaxed and enjoyable day on the water. The water clarity was exceptional, offering fantastic visibility below the surface. One of the highlights was spotting a large, orange cuttlefish, roughly 30cm in size. It moved gracefully through the water, blending in expertly with the surrounding seaweed as it swam from one pylon to another. It was so well camouflaged that it was difficult to see, check out the attached photo and see if you can spot it!
It was a quieter day in terms of turnout, with 13 sailors joining us. This allowed us to take out four boats, which also gave some of our volunteers a chance to enjoy a short sail between clients.
Unfortunately, the recent tides and currents brought a considerable amount of rubbish into our corner of the bay. Claire, Sophie, and Ros teamed up to tackle the mess, removing as much plastic and debris from the water as possible. A surprising discovery was an old bicycle, which volunteers managed to scoop out and hope to repurpose.
We’d also like to give a big shout-out to Nola and Sophie, who collected nearly four bags of rubbish from the skiff club ramp, that had been exposed during the recent low tide.
Thank you to all our volunteers and coordinators for making today such a success. We are looking forward to the next session!
