After a few worries about the expected weather early in the morning, we decided to go ahead with the regatta, leaving the decision about whether to turn up to the skippers and crew. Every booked crew arrived, and a couple of extras, so we knew we had a close run race on our hands.

The boats were rigged by the people who would sail them, placed in the water under the watchful eye of the two Davids and we were off to the other side of the bay to meet our race officers, Pam and Bruce. Warwick and Ken in Charlie’s Chariot set the buoys, the sailors arrived in the general area, and the race start procedure commenced.

Crews taking part were: David W and Ollie, Denis and Ivan, Cathy and Judy, Michael and Nick, John and James, David G and Caroline, Jannie and Adam.

The first race started very slowly, with a drop in the breeze. This picked up quickly, giving Woody the advantage and allowing a huge space to develop between first and second, with the remainder of the fleet spread out behind. The second race worked differently, with a sudden drop in the breeze allowing Alex to get in front and fly home ahead of Woody, with many changes in position.

In the meantime, over at MYC, Eli and Amin were working on the new boat, getting it ready for the water. Amin begged to be allowed to take it out on the water, and off he went to join the race, right in the middle of the first race. Strict instructions were given to stay clear until the second race, and then Amin was able to join in.

Rita, Sally, and Colleen made lunch for when the hungry hordes returned. There was a quick washing and packing away of boats, then lunch, and finally the giving of prizes.

First went to Ivan and Denis, sailing in Woody.

Second to Cathy and Judy, sailing in Alex.

Third to Caroline and David G, sailing in Black Swan.

The main winner of the race was the fun everyone had, and the delicious lunch provided by the ladies.

Thanks very much to Pam and Bruce for being the Race Officers, and to Warwick and Ken in Charlie’s Chariot.
