My weather forecasting was not as good this morning as it has been in the past, so we spent the first half of the session in the boat-room talking about the duties and responsibilities of volunteers, and the things that volunteers can expect from Sailability.

We welcomed a nice group of new volunteers; Jeremy, and his helper, Lilly, Julie, Katyana, Cecelia, Evan, and some helpers who have been with us for a few months, who came to learn the ins and outs of Sailability, and complete practice of rigging, sailing and de-rigging and putting away. Along with this, a briskly moving presentation kept everyone on their toes answering questions, and thinking of things that needed to be done. Thanks for coming along Nico, Tony, Juliette, Lyn, Peter, Michael, Ivan, Rowell, Jacinta, Marc. Also along were members of the committee; Brian, Patrick, Alan, Denis, Ralph, Nancy, David W and David G, Kandy, Helen; and the helpers who came along to help with the teaching; John, Ewan, Jack. Thanks also for coming today, Megan, who showed everyone how to put the harness on.

While we had a cup of tea, the sun managed to emerge from behind the clouds, so we put out 5 boats, and all of the new people managed to do some work towards getting the boats into the water. Several people had a first time trial in Charlie’s Chariot, and we discovered that one of our brand-new volunteers, Cecelia, has her Power Boat License, and is a very competent Power Boat driver.Photo of Cecelia on Charlie’s Chariot

All managed to have a trial sail in the very light winds. The photos had to be taken on Julia’s camera, as I had forgotten to take mine down. Photo of a trainee volunteer sailing with IvanThanks, Julie, I hope there are some good ones among them.

Helen and Kandy made a very nice lunch for us all, which was eaten between going for a sail, putting boats away and tidying up.Photo Of Tony helping Kandy with the barbecue.

We are indeed, a very keen team, which can barely wait to get the season started.
