On what was a glorious sunny day on Saturday, the members came out in force for the final sailing day for this season. Barry was in charge of the day, with Ralph in Charlie’s Chariot, Ray, king of the pontoon, Megan on the registration table and helpers Col, John W, Tony, Elaine, Joely, John, Tony, Philip, Lianne and Chris, Konrad, Suzanne, Marie and Jannie helping the participants with life-jackets, cooking the barbecue, or helping on the deck and pontoon.

Our sailors; John C, Samantha, Vince, Steve, Ross, Ivan, Helene and Bob kept the boats on the water, moving efficiently from pontoon to sailing area and back again to pick up the next keen participant.

Marie and Sue provided a delicious lunch, helped along by Elaine’s wonderful cake baking.

What started off as a slow, quiet day soon turned into a full house with all our members from Housing Connection, Dianne, Duncan, Tess, Jackie; then Balmoral House; Alyssa, Susan, Ben, Robert, Washington House Anna, Ashley, Kerri. Then BIRDS: Robert, Carlo, Roger, May, Stuart, Dirk, As well as these, we had Maureen, Craig, Michael, Luca, Vanessa and Jonathon; private members coming for a sail.

The conditions were perfect – with light breezes and a warm wind and sunny skies!!

Not even a broken boom could put a damper on the day. Vince gave Vanessa a wonderful experience, but unfortunately, no-one was taking photos on the day. I hope I have painted a detailed word picture, but a photo or two would have made it the perfect day.

With new people coming forward interested in becoming a volunteer, it’s sure to be a fun packed and busy season ahead.

Look forward to seeing you all at the next volunteer training on the 7th Sept. Marie (with the addition of people’s names by Eli.)
